FilmStack Friday
Short and Sweet
Hello Lovely Sub/FilmStackers!
Today’s FilmStack Friday is gonna be a bit light. I spent several hours on the couch last night unable to move, and I’ve been super sick this week, so it’s just not happening. (Although, after last week went extra long, I’m sure a shorter FSF is a relief for all of us! 😅)
Lucky for you (and all of us!), there is a ton of cool stuff happening all around FilmStack this week, so we don’t have to look very far for some great stuff!
But first—
The first ever New York FilmStack Meetup is tomorrow!!! Super exciting!
General Announcements:
ZTennyson and Su Tais are looking for other FilmStackers in London to have a FilmStack London Meetup! Reach out to either of them directly. Looking forward to hearing about the first London Meetup! :)
I’ll jump in and say reach out to me if you’re in DC!
The Substacker formerly known as filmjourn, a.k.a. jake S. weisman, wants to watch your movies!! He writes: “filmjourn Microcinema is dedicated to the IRL screenings of our NonDē Community. As long as I have a space, we film friends have a clubhouse. Always let me know what you’re up to.”
filmjourn Micro is located at 216 W. 5th St. in Downtown Los Angeles. We’re open Sundays from 11am - 3pm with a show around 1pm.
Reach out with your film! And support filmjourn generally!
Jennifer Esposito (yes, the Jennifer Esposito) has been championing FilmStack and NonDē and is “[l]ooking to speak to someone to pick their brain about shooting an improvised narrative on a shoe string in NYC. Reach out I’d love to chat.” I’m sure a lot of y’all can help, so comment on her note here.
People seem to appreciate my gentle reminders about opting out for AI, so here’s another one for anyone who’s privacy-focused:
Gentle reminder/heads up that anyone you subscribe to can see the email address that you used to subscribe. If you don’t want people having access to your personal email (or whichever email you are currently using to subscribe), consider changing the email address that you use to subscribe. I’d like to think none of us would abuse the privilege—and I don’t think anyone I’ve met so far would misuse this—but just a heads up for anyone who would like to make some changes or be a bit more cautious.
The FilmStack Roundup:
My colleague from FilmStack Daily Digest, Courtney Romano, wrote an absolutely stunning, powerful call to action for all of us for 2026. If there’s one thing you read this week, let it be this! And then reach out to Courtney and make sure your film is part of the movement!

(“my colleague”, don’t I feel fancy! ha—less fancy, though, since I still can’t seem to embed 😕)
Adam Kritzer’s EP dropped today: Matters of Heart
I’m obviously missing a ton of stuff, but like I said, it’s been a rough week for me, so please shout things out below!
And also, consider subscribing to FilmStack Daily Digest where Ted Hope, Courtney Romano, and I are putting out 3 posts a week with a mini roundup. And a weekly calendar! And other helpful stuff! There’s a lot of good stuff over at FSDD that everyone should check out!
If you pay for a paid subscription, 100% of proceeds go to an Emergency Filmmaker Fund administered by Ted! (Which is awesome!)
If you can’t afford to pay right now, though, please use this link for a free 1 year “paid” subscription to FSDD: https://filmstackdailydigest.substack.com/d2512cf0 (I don’t know why I’ve been having trouble embedding stuff lately…)
Offer only valid through Oct 31, so act now!
FilmStack Events:
The first ever New York FilmStack Meetup is tomorrow (Saturday, October 18)!! How exciting!! Unfortunately, the deadline to RSVP has already passed, but just a reminder for those of you who are going. Reach out to Adam Kritzer with questions or for info. I’m excited to hear how it goes!
Optic Nerve will be showing Raising Victor Vargas this Sunday, October 19 at 6:30 pm at 6 & B Garden. Get more info here and RSVP here. (Fingers crossed it doesn’t get rained out again!)
Rantz Hoseley is co-producing an original play inspired by true events written by Satu. They are having a staged reading on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at 7:30pm. It’s one night only! Get more info here and your tickets here
LA FilmStack Meetup #5 will be on November 2 at 4pm in Highland Park, the same location as the last LA Meetup. I didn’t see an RSVP link, Jon Stahl; is there one?
I’m definitely missing stuff, but check out today’s FilmStack Calendar from FilmStack Daily Digest here with more important dates (including grants, tax credits, and film festival deadlines)!
Reminders:
The FilmStack Discord is officially live! Check out the official announcement here. Thank you, Dave Baxter!
Tell Jon Stahl that you want a FilmStack Screening Series here
Sign up for a FilmStack Daily Inspiration Challenge Day for Days 101-200. Check the schedule here and reach out to Donny Broussard to schedule your day.
Charlotte Simmons gives us this month’s FilmStack Monthly Challenge #7. Check it out here. (And, perfect photo from Adaptation Charlotte 😂 10/10)
I’m sure I’m missing a bunch of stuff, so please shout stuff out in the comments!
As always, let me know if there are any corrections/amendments/etc. or if you want to be untagged!
Looking forward to seeing what everyone brings next week!
Have a great weekend! :)

Missed the opting out of AI. Can you repeat for the kids in the back??
Thanks Sara!
